This session is presented by FNU faculty member Dr. Mary Hunt Borganelli.
Nurse-midwives play a crucial role in the early detection, management, and treatment of perinatal depression. As healthcare providers who often build strong, trusting relationships with women throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, they are in a unique position to recognize the signs of perinatal depression early on and provide timely interventions. Participants will review the signs and symptoms, prevalence, screening tools and criteria of perinatal depression utilizing a case study to illustrate treatment options for patients experiencing major depression in the post-partum period of pregnancy.
