DESCRIPTION:  \nThis LIVE presentation will highlight how an Interprofessional Education\, Collaboration and Service (IPECS) committee can be your driving and sustaining force on the journey to team based care and interprofessional education. Strategies to create and sustain an IPECS committee will be discussed. Additionally\, specific interventions implemented by a OB/GYN IPECS committee will be outlined that promote a shift from a soloist health care culture to a team based culture. \n \nBy the end of the session\, participants will be able to describe the process for creating an IPECS committee\, discuss application of Kotter’s Change Theory to IPECS committee activities and apply interprofessional activities discussed to their organization. \nThis activity is approved for 1.0 contact hour of continuing education by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. She previously served as the Coordinator for Interprofessional Education\, Practice and Collaboration at Reading Hospital\, Program Coordinator at Pennsylvania State University\, Harrisburg campus and Lead Advanced Practice Clinician for Hershey Medical Center\, Women’s Health Division. She is a graduate of Frontier Nursing University (DNP)\, University of Pennsylvania (MSN/CNM/ MEd certificate)\, Edinboro University (BSN) and Dickinson College (BA). \nMark Woodland\, MS\, MD\nMark B. Woodland\, MS\, MD\, is the Chair of the Department of OBGYN at Reading Hospital for the Reading Health System in Reading\, Pennsylvania. He previously served as the Vice Dean of Graduate Medical Education (GME)\, OBGYN Residency Program Director\, Associate Director of the MIGS Fellowship and Director of the Women’s Health Advocacy and Public Policy Fellowship for Drexel University College of Medicine (DUCOM)/Hahnemann University Hospital (HUH) in Philadelphia\, Pennsylvania. Most recently he has been appointed as Chair of the CREOG Council. He is a graduate of George Washington University School of Medicine (MD)\, Villanova University (MS)\, and Ursinus College (BS) with Honors in Philosophy and Religion. \nRecognized as an area leader in Women’s Health Care by Philadelphia Magazine\, Dr. Woodland has been honored by the 2004 Consumer Guide of Top Docs for gynecology and has been ranked as a “Top Doctor” for the region in gynecologic surgery. SUMMARY:It's a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood: A Community-Based Approach to Improving Perinatal Mental Health
DESCRIPTION:This presentation will explore how empowering women through a shared decision-making process\, coupled with community collaboration\, can improve the implementation of effective perinatal mental health practices in the obstetric setting and communities at large. \nPerinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) can occur in up to 20% of women during the perinatal period and are among the leading cause of complications associated with childbearing. Untreated\, PMADs can have far-reaching negative effects on the mother\, newborn child\, family unit\, and society at large. \nMultiple organizations recommend screening for PMADs and appropriate referral to treatment and follow up during the perinatal period. \nKey takeaways: \n\nLearn effective strategies to implement best practice in the obstetric setting.\nReview the effects of a shared decision making model on empowering teams and improving patient- centered perinatal mental healthcare.\nDiscuss collaborative\, inter-professional approaches toward scaling perinatal mental healthcare best practices throughout communities.\n\n\n \nAfter the session\, please share your feedback by clicking the button below. \nPlease share your feedback here \n\nPresenter\nDr. Kalena Lanuza\nKalena Lanuza\, DNP\, MSN\, APRN\, FNP-C\, PHN\, CLCI\, is a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and received her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Frontier Nursing University in 2018. She currently serves as a faculty member in undergraduate and graduate nursing education and enjoys working with students as they accomplish their educational goals. She specializes in women’s health and her clinical and academic areas of interest include promoting emotional wellness during the perinatal period. Her DNP project informed the development of the Maternal Mental Health Coalition of Ventura County’s\, “Perinatal Provider PMAD Toolkit”\, used by perinatal providers and clinic systems throughout her community to treat and manage women with Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders. She helped found and co-chairs the Maternal Mental Health Coalition of Ventura County and is committed to improving perinatal mental health in her community through the use of inter-professional collaboration.

She was in active clinical practice as a CNM from 1981 until joining the FNU faculty in January 2019\, spending her career serving the women of inner-city Detroit. Her basic nursing and midwifery education was in England. After returning to this country she opened an in-hospital birthing center in Detroit at a time when only 5 other CNMs were practicing in the state. After 10 years she joined the Henry Ford Health System where she started a new practice with 6 other CNMs. Over the years\, Cathy grew this practice into one of the most respected in the state\, leading 22 midwives delivering at 2 hospitals and practicing in 12 outpatient centers. \nThrough the years\, Cathy has been active professionally on both the state and national levels with the American College of Nurse-Midwives. She has chaired many committees including Michigan Chapter of ACNM\, the National Quality Management Section\, the Division of Standards and Practice\, the Service Directors Network and the Volunteer Structure Re-Alignment Task Force. In addition\, she has served on the ACNM BOD as a Regional Representative\, two terms as Vice President and is currently President-elect. \nIn 1998 Cathy was inducted as an ACNM Fellow. In 2003 she received the prestigious Dorthea Lang Pioneer Award from the ACNM Foundation in recognition of her work developing and implementing ACNM benchmarking and her work as editor and author of An Administrative Manual for Nurse-Midwifery Services. She has published on clinical as well as practice issues and has spoken nationally and internationally on a variety of topics.

She has a rich history with FNU as a midwifery graduate in 1999\, the first DNP graduate in 2009\, and a WHNP graduate in 2011. Tonya served the women of central Florida in full-scope practice from 2000-2006\, where she also directed the midwifery service. In 2006\, she joined the Frontier faculty and then became the Program Director in 2010 and the Associate Dean in 2015. Tonya currently practices part-time in her hometown of Dublin\, GA. She has a variety of teaching experiences\, but the majority has been focused on the prenatal period and in clinical courses. Tonya is very interested in communication and civility at the individual and institutional levels and focuses most of her scholarship and speaking in this area.

Stone\, a certified nurse midwife\, is a leader in strategic development to increase the quality and capacity of the midwifery and advanced practice nursing workforce\, with the specific goal of improving health care for families. Her primary position for the last two decades is as the President of Frontier Nursing University where she has grown the University from a community-based school of nurse-midwifery offering a basic certificate program with 200 students enrolled\, to an accredited University offering masters and doctoral degrees to nurses seeking graduate credentials. Today the University has over 2\,000 graduate and doctoral nursing students enrolled from every state in the United States and seven foreign countries. The focus is educating primary care providers to serve rural and underserved populations. Within its degree programs the university now offers tracks leading nurses to certification as nurse-midwives\, family nurse practitioners\, women’s health care nurse practitioners\, and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners. Dr. Stone also currently serves as the President of the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) where her agenda includes increasing the midwifery workforce through educational quality and capacity strategies\, midwifery advocacy focusing on the maternal mortality and morbidity crisis\, and growing the diversity in the healthcare workforce. She believes collaboration with other health care professionals is an essential component to improve the health of women and families and continues to foster this approach in her various roles.
